I want to emphasize that this post is not focused on partisan politics. Although it references an article about Senator Kerry, the purpose of this post is to highlight the damage that Soviet disinformation has done to the viability of a "true peace" movement. One can assume that a search for peace requires the unveiling of truth, rather than the distortion of it through active campaigns of disinformation.
The article below reveals how effective the Soviets were in their influence of the American peace movement.
Thus, I highly recommend this article by Ion Mihai Pacepa, published at the National Review Magazine website:
Kerry’s Soviet Rhetoric.
Here's a quote that sums it up:
"As a spy chief and a general in the former Soviet satellite of Romania, I produced the very same vitriol Kerry repeated to the U.S. Congress almost word for word and planted it in leftist movements throughout Europe. KGB chairman Yuri Andropov managed our anti-Vietnam War operation. He often bragged about having damaged the U.S. foreign-policy consensus, poisoned domestic debate in the U.S., and built a credibility gap between America and European public opinion through our disinformation operations. Vietnam was, he once told me, 'our most significant success.'"
