Twenty year old Seth Glier came out on the stage at One Longfellow Square on Thursday night and fearlessly sang a down-home song a capella, sounding like an Appalachian country boy, keeping rhythm with his two stomping feet. His enthusiastic and elastic voice was nicely presented and segued into an hour of original tunes set against his impressive piano playing. His friend, Ryan Hammond, provided skillful backup with guitar and vocal harmonies.

Seth’s songwriting style is reminiscent of early Billy Joel and Elton John, and I came to that conclusion before I read the same thing from reviews on his web page! He could easily be a candidate on American Idol, possessing the kind of talent that sends young girls swooning and record sales soaring. He moved like a dancing cat on the piano stool, lifting and touching down each leg almost as if his body movements were propelling the music along. His delivery was very passionate and sincere.
He was enrolled in Boston’s Berklee School of Music for a time, but ironically dropped out to pursue his music career exclusively. He cited his twenty-four year old, non-verbal, autistic brother as part of the inspiration for his ability to express himself musically. Another unique angle on his forty-five city tour is the sponsorship of CLIF bar (organic energy bars) and his determination to tour “green”, driving a hybrid vehicle and even planting trees before some of the shows! Seth is a likable and impressive young performer who definitely seems as if his career will go far.
